How to Take M-Pesa Payments in a WhatsApp Chat, Without Chasing Anyone

How Zenai sends your own Till, Paybill or Pochi details the moment a customer orders, collects what you need to find the payment, and lets you confirm the money in one tap.

If you sell on WhatsApp in Kenya, you know the moment. The customer is ready, you send your till number, and then silence. Did they pay? Was it the right amount? Is that M-Pesa message on your phone theirs, or someone else’s? Chasing and matching payments eats hours that should go to the business.

Your payment details, at the right moment

With Zenai, the moment a customer agrees to buy, the order is written down and the customer gets your own payment details: your Till number, your Paybill and account number, or your Pochi la Biashara. The money goes straight to you. Zenai never holds it.

The customer tells you what they sent

  1. The customer orders in the chat, at your price or a price you agreed while bargaining
  2. Zenai replies with the order and how to pay you
  3. After paying, the customer sends the name on their M-Pesa, the amount, and the M-Pesa code
  4. The payment lands in your Queue, next to the order it belongs to
  5. You check your M-Pesa messages and confirm it, or reject it
  6. Zenai tells the customer either way

The bot never confirms a payment on its own. You are the one who can see your M-Pesa messages, so you are the one who says yes.

Why the name, the amount and the code

Those are what you need to find the payment among your M-Pesa messages. The name tells you who, the amount tells you whether it matches the order, and the code is the exact reference. If the customer does not have the code to hand, the name and amount are usually enough. If the amount is not what the order says, the Queue points it out, so a short payment does not slip through.

When a customer wants their money back

Refunds follow the policy you set in Settings. If you do not give refunds, Zenai says so politely, and if the customer insists, the chat comes to you. Zenai never promises a refund by itself.

Getting set up

  • In Settings, add your Till, your Paybill and account number, or your Pochi la Biashara
  • Set your refund policy in the same place
  • Add your products and prices in My Store → Catalogue
  • Keep the Zenai app on your phone, so you see payments waiting in the Queue
